Woodridge is a large village primarily located in DuPage County, Illinois. Small portions of the village extend into Will and Cook counties. Woodridge is one of the largest villages in DuPage County. According to the United States Census Bureau, about 33,000 people lived in Woodridge in 2016, making it the 13th largest village in DuPage County.
The first peoples to settle in the Woodridge area were Native American Indians from the Pottawatomie tribe. Following the end of the Black Hawk War, many Native American Indians were driven away from their homeland to the west of the Mississippi River. This allowed an influx of settlers. The new settlers purchased land for cheap and established farms and businesses. In 1959, Woodridge became incorporated as a village. At the time of incorporation, about 460 people lived in the community. As the Chicagoland area expanded more people moved west to the suburbs and this caused the population of Woodridge to grow. As aforementioned, about 33,000 people live in Woodridge today.
Individuals who visit modern-day Woodridge will discover a well-developed village. Woodridge sits north of the Des Plaines River and along Interstate 355. Tree-lined streets, beautiful homes, community parks, and large shopping centers are located in Woodridge. Despite the village’s humble beginnings, Woodridge has developed as a beautiful and modern village.
